Rioja Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2019. The Tinto is 100% Tempranillo which spent 6 months in used American and French oak. It is medium ruby-coloured and offers pleasant aromas of Asian spice, cranberry, and red currants. There is good material here with plenty of fruit, light tannin, and a good grip. There is also a sense of elegance. It is a terrific introduction to what Rioja is all about and an excellent value.
Tasting notes, The Wine Advocate, rate 91
The creamy and lactic 2019 Crianza was produced with pure Tempranillo that achieved good ripeness (14%), keeping freshness, the character of the 2019, a drier vintage than average with some heat but not excess, and the ripeness was perfect and the grapes very healthy. This is generously oaked after 14 months in used French and American oak barrels with rackings every six months. Very approachable. 150,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2022.
Grapes 100 % Tempranillo.
Vineyards. Proprietary vineyards area in San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Laguardia.
Elaboration, Traditional elaboration, all destemmed.
6 months in vat. 6 months old oak Bordelaise barrels.
Tasting notes, Intense ruby red. The aroma of red fruits (strawberry) in good intensity in conjunction with spice, vanilla and oak notes. The palate is fresh, soft, and balanced, with the fruit well integrated with the letters of oak, vanilla and light toast.
