Ontanon Rioja Reserva (magnum)
Tasting notes. The Wine Advocate, 89 rating
The sleek and polished Reserva, the classical, showed notes of ripe black fruit and plenty of spices and smoke with an earthy and leathery touch. The palate is juicy with some dusty tannins
.The town of Quel is the origin of a wine reference in Rioja Oriental. It is in Quel, where Ontanon have been cultivating vines for more than 80 years.
Important to highlight in the selection of grapes for this exceptional Reserve is undoubtedly the varieties used, since although its primary source is Tempranillo, we would also highlight the Graciano variety that comes from one of our wildest and most beautiful vines, "LA PASSED." Of crisscrossed and asymmetrical hills, it is of unmatched beauty for the nature lover and enjoys difficult soil and little rain.
Extended maceration with a controlled temperature of 26-28ºC.
24 months in oak barrels (American and French).
Thoroughly controlled racking every 4-6 months.
Colour: Intense red, iridescent tiles, it is conceived as a wine of ageing.
Note: Complex and rich aromas are linked to the terroir. Inhale the aromas of raspberries, savouring the effusion of solid chocolate.
Taste: Old, well assimilated. Ripe fruits on a toasted background.
Food: Cured and Iberian Ham and Cheese, Pates, Roasts and Strong Meats.
Intimacy is the keynote of an intense, spicy and smooth red wine, which glides, offering a real feeling of confidence. It is a wine to escape, to taste and enjoy, thanks to its complex aroma of ripe fruits on clean toasts.
