Chateauneuf-du-Pape red 3 bottle case. Domaine Chante Cigale

Domaine Chante Cigale is the most essential family property in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. It is now led by Alexandre Favier, who continues the tradition of family winemakers.
The DomainDomain has a vineyard which extends over more than 40 hectares on the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation spread over 45 plots, scattered throughout this exceptional terroir: the diversity of soils and grape varieties allows develop unique wines. The spirit of the Domain is ensured by Alexandre Favier and his team, who themselves provide each stage of the production of the estate's wines.

The vineyard soils are made of clay and chalk covered with a layer of the classic large pebbles ('gets) found in this area, which naturally keeps yields low. The old is over 60 years old and situated near the plateau de Carbières (close to Château Montredon). Harvesting is by hand, with selective sorting of the grapes. The grapes undergo a traditional long 'cuvaison' at a quite high temperature and with extended maceration on the skins (21-24 days to extract plenty of colour, fruit and tannins. This is followed by ageing for 14-18 months in 'foudre' (large oak barrels), 70% vats, 30% Burgundian pieces and casks.

This is a traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape with a peppery, leathery nose. The palate is dry with spices, more pepper and a hint of vanilla before a delicious, firm finish.

Tasting notes from the Wine Advocate 89 rating
A blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape boasts slightly peppery aromas and mixed red berries on the palate. It's medium to bold-bodied, with a silky feel; it just lacks a bit of richness and length on the finish. It should drink well for close to a decade.
