Vintage 1967 wine Rivesaltes, Robert Parker Score: 94

1967 wine Rivesaltes
The wine will carry a high alcoholic level at 17%, so the wine will last for well over 50 years. Wine Advocate scored 94 points. The 1967 Rivesaltes wine has a refined bouquet with marmalade, espresso, toffee and quince that is well-defined and very focused. There is natural energy encapsulated within these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with a sharp entry that is counterbalanced by its racy acidity and a real fieriness in its heart. This has a real edginess to it - a great Rivesaltes. Drink now-2030+ Score: 94 Wine
One of the most extraordinary tastings recently has been of Rivesaltes Vin Doux Naturels from 2000 to 1933. These naturally sweet fortified wines, from 16% to 17.5% abv, were unearthed by Montpellier-based oenologist Philippe Gayral. They are still in cask, to be bottled under his brand L'Archiviste. In 1950, 60 million litres of Rivesaltes VDN were drunk in France; today, just 1 million. Soon they will cease to exist. One or two bottles are a must for every cellar. Steven Spurrier, Decanter.com, July 2014, 95 points.

Drink now-2030+ Score: 94 Wine AdvocateRivesaltes is an appellation for the historic sweet wines of eastern Roussillon in the deep south of France. The sweet vin doux naturel wines produced in this area have been revered since at least the 14th Century. The technique used to make them is one of several employed for sweet wines. Unlike botrytized wines or ice wines, vines doux naturels are made by mutage, a process of stopping must fermenting while there is still a high level of natural sweetness.
