Taylors.
The 1985 Taylor vintage Port wine followed a freezing and wet winter. Budburst occurred early in April, and flowering began at the end of May. The summer was consistently hot, and the harvest started on September 26. By the end of the harvest, it was clear that the year had produced Port wines of exceptional quality. In 1985, the late entertainer and cartoonist Willy Rushton visited Taylor’s Quinta de Vargellas and created memorable sketches of the Taylor’s Vintage at Vargellas.
Tasting notes. The wine has an intense ruby color that is just beginning to unfold. Its aroma is rich, complete, and multidimensional, showcasing a balance of youthful and mature qualities. You’ll find scents of ripe berry fruit, licorice, and butterscotch, accompanied by notes of fragrant violet. The palate is smooth and round, featuring velvety, well-integrated tannins and an abundance of rich, fig-like fruit flavors. The warm, mellow finish is filled with luscious, jammy fruit.
