Tasting notes The Wine Advocate
This is a fabulous version of Ruinart’s NV Brut Blanc de Blancs. The wine seems fresher, more vibrant and less obviously sweet than in the past, all of which makes this a far more interesting wine. The trademark profile of lemon, jasmine and green apples is very much in the forefront while the wine’s textural finesse and length are both first-class. This release of the NV Brut makes a great introduction to the wines of Ruinart, Champagne’s oldest house.
A first nose of great intensity, on notes of fresh fruit, especially of ripe citrus fruits. A second very fine and floral nose with notes of white flowers and white fruits (white peach). A soft, harmonious mouth attack, lots of roundness.
A vinosity without excess, supported by a superb freshness. Notes of brugnon, citrus, and a nice minerality in the final. A long finish and very refreshing.
A perfect champagne for aperitif, especially summer or spring.
At table it combines very well with all the seafood and crustaceans, it is perfect on a tartare of bar or sea bream. A sole plancha can also accompany it without problem.
Blend 100% chardonnay of different years (20 to 25% of reserve wines from the previous 2 years).
Origin : A very large majority of Premiers Crus from the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims for aromatic finesse, complemented by wines from Sézannais known for bringing roundness. Finally, some wines from the north of the Vesle valley bring a touch of freshness and lightness.
