Tasting notes, The Wine Advocate, Rating 94
Pol Roger's 2015 Brut Vintage Champagne is generous and demonstrative, bursting with aromas of golden orchard fruit, nectarine, warm bread, buttered popcorn and orange oil. Full-bodied, broad and vinous, it's rich and fleshy, with a sweet, layered core of fruit, racy acids and a pretty pinpoint mousse. Stylistically, 2015 has more in common with the richness and concentration of 2012 than the chiselled raciness of 2013. It's a beautiful bottle in the making.
They must undergo two débourbages (settings) at the press house immediately after the second, a debourbage à froid, in stainless steel tanks at 6°C over 24 hours. A fabulous slow fermentation with a temperature of 18°C takes place in stainless vats with each variety, and each area is kept separate. The wine undergoes a complete malolactic fermentation before final blending. Secondary fermentation occurs in the bottle at the deepest Pol Roger cellars. The wine is kept until it undergoes riddling by hand, a rarity in Champagne nowadays.
