San Vicente was aged 20 months in primarily new French oak (a small amount of American wood was also used), and bottled unfiltered. This Pomerol-styled Spanish red offers succulent, mocha, black cherry, chocolate, and toasty oak aromas as well as wonderful intensity, medium to full body, silky tannin, and a long, heady finish.

The 2020 San Vicente had a traditional vinification, destemmed grapes fermented for nine days with pumping over twice per day and a maceration of 22 days. It matured in new barrels (90% French and 10% American) for 20 months, including malolactic. It has 14.1% alcohol and a pH of 3.59 with 5.6 grams of acidity, but the warmer year is noticeable in the aromas

In search of a wine which showed the true potential of the Sonsierra Tempranillo, the Eguren family founded in 1991, Señorío de San Vicente. Their philosophy was to create a single wine, San Vicente from a single vineyard, La Canoca from one grape variety Tempranillo Peludo, a variety which is autochthonous to the area, with unique characteristics and a low production. If we went back to the early 80s we would find Guillermo Eguren starting a mass selection of grapevines of the Tempranillo variety among the family most balanced old vineyards. He then chose grapevines with low vigour, low production and reduced size of the clusters. A few years later, in 1985, in one of the spots of higher altitude of the municipality of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a limited area of cultivation, planting was carried out in a field of about 18 Ha called La Canoca. This privileged place is characterized by a rugged topography with abundant south-facing slopes, all of them settled in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria, which protects the enclave from the cold north winds.
