The 1981 wine Rivesaltes 70cl is a ideal 40th Birthday gift idea
Tasting notes from the The Wine Advocate
Bottled in 2013, the 1981 Rivesaltes from Riveyrac (the brand name given to Philippe Gayral to use for his bottling), has a refugent mahogany colour. It has a potent nose: rose-hip, stewed fig and a sprinkle of nutmeg. The palate is nicely balanced with cloves and a continuation of that nutmeg theme, although it feels a little dry and austere throughout the second half, perhaps just a little anonymous compared to some of Gayral's other bottlings, but it does benefit from aeration and reveals a lovely orange peel and tangy marmalade finish.
You can upgrade this 1969 wine gift box, with a leather PU wine box with a corkscrew, wine pourer, wine cutter and wine ring
Rivesaltes is an appellation for the historic wines of eastern Roussillon, in the deep south of France. The sweet vin doux naturel wines produced in this area have been revered since at least the 14th Century.
