Rioja Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2003 Rioja
Sierra Cantabria Crianza 2003 Rioja
The 2003 Crianza is 100% Tempranillo from three estate-owned parcels. The wine was aged for 14 months in used French and American oak and bottled unfiltered. Dark ruby-colored, the wine emits a classy nose of cinammom spice, cedar, tobacco, and red currants. The wine is fairly broad on the palate for this hot vintage with chunky, ripe fruit, moderate tannin, good balance, and decent length. It should evolve for 2-3 years and drink well through 2013. AGING Barrel: 14 months in Bordeaux barrels of French and American oak. Age of the barrels: maximum “3 wines barrels”. Racked regularly every 4 months. Bottle: Bottled without filtration June 2004. VINTAGE Climatic year: Adequate but irregularly distributed rains during 2001 resulted in an optimal vegetative development. Abundance of rains between November and March, mild temperatures in winter and high temperatures during a quite dry spring produced acceleration in the germination and flowering. Warm summer with enough rains due to some mild storms in July. Drought in August and September slowed down the maturation and compensated the previous acceleration. The harvest took place during October as usual gathering bunches with excellent healthy and ripeness levels. PRESENTATION Bottle: Traditional Bordelais, 750 mL, green with U.V. filter. Cork: 100% natural of the highest quality. 49 mm long, washed and sterilized.
