Chateau Tayac, Margaux, 1998
Tayac's vineyards cover an area of 30 hectares, Annick and Pierre Saturny took over the estate in April 1959 and at that time the vineyard had been abandoned over the previous two decades and had to be completely overhauled. They gradually re-planted the vineyard, carrying out clonal selections and discovering the "red-stem" Merlot, which now enjoys a favourable exposure, growing on the south-facing slope of the vineyards overlooking the river. Traditional vine growing techniques are maintained, such as ploughing of the soil and harvesting by hand.
