Cotes du Rhone are a range of fine wine
This is a blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% old Carignan planted on two types of soils : the first sandstone on flat terrain and the second, clay and limestone soil on a hillside. The Grenache and Carignan vines are more than 60 years old and the Syrah and Mourvèdre about 20 years old.The yield was of 35 hL per hectare in the 1999 vintage. A green harvest was done in August in order to remove some of the bunches grapes
For the first time in 1998, as a result of the exceptional quality of the vintage and according to the definitive strategy of Domaine Houchart to produce high quality red wines from Côtes de Provence, Vignobles Jérôme Quiot decided to produce, in the good vintages, a wine with exceptional concentration and finesse, called "Reserve". The clay-chalk soils of the Northwest part of the Côtes de Provence are known for a very long time for their suitability for ageing. The soil comes from a supply of small chalky stones to the supply of streamy from Sainte Victoire, whose plateaux carry stones residues. This wine is a blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah, he is aged for 40 % of the blend in barrel.
